Need help answering this discussion question on The Thousand and One Nights

How are women depicted in the frame and the tales?  Are all women easily characterized into simple categories?  Which women stand out as particularly intriguing, infuriating, etc.?  Based on these narratives, what might we assume about the positions women held, women’s rights, and women’s lives in the Medieval Muslim world?  How does that compare to the characterization of women in Muslim countries found in American media today, or to the reality of actual Muslim women you know? How do these stereotypes, both in Medieval literature and in the media, influence our attitudes and behavior toward “the Other”?
