1 Pilot Study

You will collect (or have collected) small amounts of “data” (we will go over the multitude of possibilities for what constitutes “data”). We will use that data to collectively discuss analysis possibilities using some of the methods discussed in class. You will complete an exploratory analysis of themes that emerge from the data and produce a 2-3 page summary (APA, excluding title page and references in that count) of the process. This will be a small version of the final paper and is intended as an introductory/exploratory activity designed to try out doing discourse analysis.

2. Lit Review
Students should find 5-10 related articles, chapters, and/or books that pertain to (critical) discourse analysis. Search, locate, read, and review these references and provide bibliographical

information and short notes for each article on strengths, weaknesses, and usefulness toward your research interests (This can be done be by creating a table if you desire). Drawing from at this lit review work write a 3-5 page (APA, excluding title page and references in that count) literature review
