Module 2

Genetic Mutations Exercise

Instructions:  Below you are given an imaginary wildtype sense strand (coding strand) of DNA and the corresponding mature mRNA sequence with its corresponding protein sequence. Five mutant DNA sense strands are presented. For each mutant DNA strand (mutant 2-5), write the mRNA strand, the protein sequence, and an explanation of the type(s) of mutation represented, including the impact on protein synthesis. I have completed the first mutant as an example. I will post the answers after the assignment has been submitted. This is a required homework activity worth 5 points.

Wildtype sense strand sequence:           ATG-TCA-CCC-GCG-CAG-GAA-GGA

(Upper case letters denote coding sequence of the DNA)

 Mature mRNA sequence:                             AUG-UCA-CCC-GCG-CAG-GAA-GGA

Protein sequence:          methionine-serine-proline-alanine-glutamine-glutamic acid-glycine

Mutant 1:                                                            ATG-TGA-CCC-GCG-CAG-GAA-GGA

mRNA:                                                                  AUG-UGA-CCC-GCG-CAG-GAA-GGA

Protein:                                                                 methionine-stop

Therefore, it can be said that M&S possesses a sound fundamental financial position.

In order to analyse the efficiency of a company, it is necessary to quantify its financial performance. Not just the investors, but other stakeholders like suppliers, credit providers and banks also consider the financial performance of the company as a parameter of its efficiency. Such analysis is often done in two stages. Initially, the performance of the company is analysed for the past few years (atleast five or more years). Historical data reflects the past trend and fundamentals of the company. However, one should not rely only on historical performance. rather the performance of the company in the last financial year should also be taken into consideration. Tools like ratio analysis should be used to make the process more transparent and holistic. Moreover, the performance of the company should be compared against the industry to arrive at a more authentic conclusion.

In the given project, financial performance of Marks and Spencer will be analysed by taking into consideration its last five years performance. Later on, essential ratios will be analysed and compared against the industry benchmark to have a more comprehensive understanding.

Marks and Spencer is one of the leading retailers in UK. Data published by the company reveals that in a single week more than 21 million customers visit its stores. The company is engaged in selling high quality clothes and home products along with quality food. The supplier base of the company comprises more than 2,000 suppliers from different parts of the world. Approximately 76, 000 people are employed by UK and other stores located in 41 overseas territories.

The company was founded by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer in the year 1884 for selling specifically British products. However, with time, the company had to break this policy to gain competitive edge in

For this scholarly activity, you will explain the link between crime patterns, trends, and theory. Referencing Chapters 7 and 8, you will focus on social criminological theories and their relation to crime rates. Select two theories (one from Chapter 7 and one from Chapter 8), and include responses to the following points in your scholarly activity:

· Explain the theories (one to two paragraphs for each theory). In your explanation, include how these would either raise or lower the crime rate and your rationale as to why.

· Explain how peer groups, families, and social organizations positively or negatively affect your theory.

· Explain your thoughts on the theories as far as their applicability to explain crime. Do you think these are relevant? Why, or why not? Is there anything missing that would make them explain crime better? Your scholarly activity must be a minimum of two pages in length. Outside sources are not a requirement; however, if you choose to use outside sources, they must be cited and referenced Information about accessing the grading rubric for this assignment is provided below
