Milestones refer to important points in the development of a particular skill or ability. For example, some (but not all) of the milestones related to gross motor development include rolling over, sitting up, crawling, standing up, cruising, and walking.

The ability to communicate is an important skill. In fact, it is one of the first skills infants and children must master. Infants communicate primarily through crying. Parents and caregivers can become quite adept at interpreting a child’s cry so that they can respond to his or her needs quickly and appropriately.

While nature predisposes humans to language, it is nurture that determines language development. Language development can be facilitated in a number of ways: Adults can modify their speech (i.e., child-directed speech, simplified speech) to help young children attend to and learn the important parts of speech and appropriate syntax; play simple games with children that encourage turn-taking (a characteristic of good communication); and use of scaffolding (e.g., repetition) to help children learn the basics of language and communication (Pinker, 2004). The milestones of language development range from pre-language babbling to multi-word phrases and sentences. Individual and cultural differences can affect the rate and form of language within these milestones.

For this Discussion, you will explore one developmental milestone in infancy and/or toddlerhood as it relates to cognitive, physical, and/or social-emotional development.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Learning Resources for this week and consider the various developmental milestones in infancy and/or toddlerhood.
  • Select only one developmental milestone in infancy and/or toddlerhood as it relates to cognitive, physical, and/or social-emotional development.

By Day 4

Post a brief description of the developmental milestone you selected. Then, explain the impact of missing and meeting the milestone as it relates to cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development in infancy and/or toddlerhood. Use your Learning Resources to support your post. Use proper APA format and citations.

By Day 6

Respond to at least one of your colleagues’ posts and explain the multicultural and/or diversity considerations needed, as they relate to the development of the milestone.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting and answer any questions. Note what you have learned and/or any insights that you have gained as a result of your colleagues’ comments.

Hi, I need help with essay on Sammy, in A&P by John Updike Conflict between Sammy and his boss. Then Sammy wanted to be seen as a hero to these girls, then failed. Finally Sammy regrets his decision to quit his job. Paper must be at least 500 words. Please, no plagiarized work!

The author used the setting of the grocery store and first person narration to describe the changes in the thinking and pattern of Sammy’s acts and justification of his behavior and choices he made and consequences he faced as a result.

In the story, Sammy makes a leap from adolescent, knowing life a little more than it was in the grocery store, into a man that is able to head towards the rough patch of life. The grocery store setting helps to shape his imagination by the opportunities that it gives Sammy to expand his imagination. In the grocery store, there are a lot of items. This is an advantage for the author to use his imagination to compare the girls with the items available. Moreover, the store exhibits a place where a number of persons visit and Sammy exhibits prowess in understanding all of them, for Sammy the customers are all too easy to understand. The same goes for his boss and Stoksie, a 22- year old colleague and a friend. In the beginning he behaves as a sexist and describes one of his female complaining customer as a person without a brain in his statement “You never know for sure how girls’ minds work (do you really think it’s a mind in there or just a little buzz like a bee in a glass jar?”(Updlike)

The entrance of girls suggests to him the true mystery of other minds. Sammy wonders what they are thinking and describes them in detail using his imagination as a consequence of available free time at the store. For example he describes one of the girls face as a cherry and&nbsp. For instance, “She had sort of okay hair that the sun and salt had bleached, done up in a bun that was unraveling, and a kind of prim face” (Updlike,par.4).The author uses first person narration as tool to convey his ideas in a more helpful manner because it is more personal and helps convey the ideas and justifies Sammy’s behavior.

The story also tells us about the typical way men think about women. Sammy’s changing point of view about women

Write a 5 page essay on Japan’s Dragon Triangle.

As you travel on the other side of the globe, towards the Pacific ocean off the coast of Japan, you are likely to encounter a less known, but equally mystical area of ocean, known as “The Dragon Triangle” more popularly known to the Japanese as “Ma-no Umi” which literally translates as “The Sea of the Devil”. A series of unexplainable events, which are beyond the powers of us mere mortals, has led to the development of sensational theories, some of which have even found way into the folk lore of the Japanese people. According to the myth, the dragons live deep underneath the deadly sea and their movement causes the sudden churn in waves, whirlpools, dense fog and sudden storms. While yet others believe it to be the handiwork of “mikakunin hiko-buttai”, Japanese for UFOs.

Various authors, scientists and researchers have attempted to solve such mythical occurrences and reason the popular theories revolving around witchcraft, haunting, demon possessions and wizardry but none, so far, have come close to actually addressing the problem.

However, Theodre Schick and Lewis Vaughn, in their famous book titled “How to think about weird things”, have presented an interesting formula called the SEARCH formula, which is in fact an acronym for the four steps. If we consider the case of the Japanese Dragon Triangle, and study it in the light of the tool developed by Vaughn and Schwick, chances are we might derive some logical conclusions and help clear the myths relating to such mysteries.
