Respond to the items below.

1.     Vaccinations are mandatory for most babies and school-aged children as they build the body’s immune response. Describe two (2) pros and two (2) cons of vaccines.

2.     Describe one (1) way that immunizations affect the lymphatic system and one (1) way they affect the immune system.

3.     Some vaccines diminish over time and require boosters or additional immunizations. Why is this? Provide one (1) supporting fact. Identify two (2) of the most common vaccines that require booster shots.

4.     Some people reported being ill after being vaccinated. What is actually happening to their immune system? Provide one (1) supporting fact.  Are there any chronic/life threatening illnesses or diseases that are transmittable through immunizations? Provide one (1) supporting fact.

5.     Do you think that all vaccines should be mandatory or only specific ones? Why or why not? Be specific, using two (2) supporting sources.

The essay “Comparison Between Two Modern Paintings” examines ‘Orange Moon Over Ocean (Evening)’, and ‘The Old Window’, two modern paintings. While both of these works of art were made in recent years, it’s clear they borrow aspects from past artistic styles. In these regards, both works of art are heavily influenced by a style referred to as realism. Realists attempted to depict art in an honest and natural way. The first work of art ‘Orange Moon Over Ocean (Evening)’ is a work of landscape art. The painting is constructed in oil and canvas and depicts an evening display of the setting sun shining down on the ocean. In addition to being realist, it’s clear that this work is also influenced by impressionist art. In these regards, the ocean and sunlight are meant to depict a person’s impressions of the scenery rather than the actual scenery itself. in this way it is not a strict realist painting. Still, it’s clear the painting is very interested in the depiction of natural imagery. When one considers ‘The Old Window’ it’s clear that this work is more firmly rooted in traditional realist style. Similar to ‘Orange Moon Over Ocean (Evening)’ this work is painted in oil and canvas. The painting depicts a window that reflects a tree. There is also a branch that crosses over the window. While this depiction sounds unexciting the painting is actually highly detailed and meaning. In these regards, it shares with ‘Orange Moon Over Ocean (Evening)’ a depiction of almost romantic proportions.

· Read the PDF documented I attached by Kingdon – The Revised Model Theory (on pages 86 to 88).

· Read the book of “Understanding the Public Policy” by Dye, readings: Chapters 3 

The following below are two recent issues that have generated a wide range of national attention and debates. Do an analysis of these two policy issues about how they got on the policy agenda with differing results. You can use search engines such as google, yahoo, etc. if you need to find additional information on these two policies. Just make sure you add it to the reference and use in-text citation

First Policy:

In 2018 the House proposed the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018 supported by President Trump as part of the negotiation on an immigration bill that would address the situation of Dreamers. The bill was a so-called ‘compromise’ immigration bill, but it met with grass roots rallies opposing the House proposals and seeking provisions that would allow many current illegal residents to apply for citizenship. Current immigration policy seems to be ineffective primarily because of under-funding and opposition from many interest groups. The immigration bill was failed to pass.  

Second Policy:

In 2009, President Obama promoted a healthcare reform bill that met with opposition from the republican congressional delegates, business interest groups, and grass roots groups. He was successful in getting a scaled down version passed. 

Instructions:

Using the theories discussed in this week’s readings (Kingdon, Kushefsky, Gerston, & Dye) discuss the process for getting policy on the public agenda, how the policy is formulated, and look at the challenges in the policy formulation process. Contrast and/or compare the formulation process involved in the two policies. Be sure to talk about Gerston’s substantive and symbolic responses to issues. Be sure to talk about Kingdon’s Revised Model (This is a key resource). Be sure to talk about Dye’s discussion in Chapter 3 particularly on non-decisions and the media influence along. Also talk about Rushefsky’s discussion on the policy process (on pages 4-17). Do not describe the legislation in my paper but you can analyze in terms of the theory and cite the class readings.
