Romeo and Juliet explores the theme of hatred as much as it does the theme of love. 

How are the two themes presented in the text? How do they relate to each other?

Where love (or any emotion) is present, its opposite is usually lurking nearby–earthly life being one of contrasts. 

These contrasting states (in our case, love and hate) are readily observed in many of Shakespeare’s works. Contrasts are clearly on view in his tragic love drama Romeo and Juliet. 

Those emotions are so accessible, in part, because readers view the lovers’ actions through the lens of their own young-love memories.
