A search of a student’s person or property may start as a reasonable search but can quickly escalate into an unreasonable one. The case study “Walkabout” at the beginning of Chapter 6 presents the issue of searching students. Additionally, the issue of drugs (even over-the-counter drugs) on school property is a current problem that should be addressed.

For this discussion, if your last name begins with A through M, you will present an argument in full support of the search of Tasha’s property and person. If your last name begins with N through Z, you will present an argument that the search of Tasha’s property and person was unreasonable. (John Doe would argue in support of searching Tasha’s person and property.) Both arguments should keep in mind: Tasha is most likely violating school rules by skipping math class and hiding behind some shrubberies. But, does this justify the search of her purse? Does a tip from an “unreliable” source that Tasha is selling pills during lunch justify a search of her purse? Of her brassiere?

Competency

Evaluate how to develop high-quality educators through ethics and leadership.

Scenario

You are the director at All Kids Childcare and Education. You are completing your staff performance reviews this week and have realized that many of the teachers are not following your policies or state regulations. The main issues you’ve noticed during the performance reviews are teachers using cell phones in the classroom and gathering on the playground to talk. Both of these behaviors create situations where there is not a good teacher-child interaction, and the children are not being properly observed. You feel it is important to offer opportunities for teachers with unacceptable performance a chance to improve their practice.

Instructions

First, reflect on what might be motivating the teachers to perform at a low level of practice.

  • Describe the theory of motivation you would use to motivate the teachers to supervise the children better. Provide a detailed reasoning behind why that theory of motivation is best used in this situation.
  • Describe how you would coach teachers who were on their phone or not supervising children properly to create a more developmentally appropriate classroom. Be specific on which of the coaching strategies you would use. Please include at least three strategies.

Submit your reflection as a two-page paper in Word. Provide supporting information from the module 04 reading and use early childhood terminology.

A cover sheet, APA formatting for the reference list, and proper grammar and punctuation are required. APA help is available here.

1. Do you believe that ethics is an important part of providing public safety services to the community? Please describe in detail how a public safety organization would demonstrate that the organization operates in an ethical manner.

(500 words at least 2 references;  separate each question with references)

2. The popular demand for government reform might arise more as a result of ethics lapses on part of public officials rather than as a consequence of management failure or inefficiency. Can you provide an example of ethics lapses in government? Please be detailed with your response to the question.

(500 words at least 2 references;  separate each question with references)

3. Current U.S. military doctrine recognizes four categories of power available to a nation: diplomatic, informational, military, and economic.  Upon examination, it is apparent that only a nation/state can wield these elements of power; they would be beyond the reach of weaker powers or organizations.  How then, can these lesser entities influence the powerful?  Five “underdog” strategies are outlined as alternative sources of power for the weak.  If you are trying to influence the national policy of the United States, which of these five strategies do you feel would be the most effective?  Why?

(500 words at least 2 references;  separate each question with references)

4. The official declared national strategy for the US military is the Two Major Theater of War (MTW) strategy.  The central tenet of this strategy is that the United States must be prepared to fight two simultaneous MTWs.  Is it possible to execute such a strategy today?  Why or why not?

    • For qualitative research articles, confirm that a qualitative research design or approach, such as narrative, ethnographic, grounded theory, case study, or phenomenology, was used in the study.

There are several design classifications in MMR; some examples of MMR types or families of design are parallel, concurrent, sequential, multilevel, or fully integrated mixed methods design.
