Assignment: Monumental Documents

Would the Allies win or the Central Powers? Four years after the start of World War I it still was not clear, and the devastation and loss of life continued. World leaders deliberated and the masses wondered how the fighting would end. To understand what helped to end the war, and to understand a changing political landscape in Europe between the two World Wars, you will take a closer look at two important documents.

These two documents, “President Wilson’s Fourteen Points” and the Treaty of Versailles, had the power to put an end to World War I and to help move Europe toward peaceful post-war rebuilding. But, what motivated Woodrow Wilson to make a speech to the U.S. Congress in 1918, outlining his “Fourteen Points”? And, how and why did nations agree to come together and sign the Treaty of Versailles in 1919? What did nations hope to achieve?

In your Assignment this week you will analyze these two important documents, and examine what countries gained and lost.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review Chapter 11 (pp. 154–171), as well as the Treaty of Versailles and President Wilson’s Fourteen Points in this week’s Learning Resources to get a full understanding of the context and content of both documents.
  • Consider the similarities and differences in content of the two documents, as well as each document’s strengths and weaknesses.
  • Determine what each of the major war nations achieved and lost according to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles.
  • Reflect on how victorious nations came to agreement on the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, the tensions among nations that existed at the time of the signing, and which countries were left out of the negotiations.

The assignment:

  • Compose a 2- to 3-page essay in which you do the following:
    • Compare the Treaty of Versailles with Woodrow Wilson’s Fourteen Points, including the strengths and weaknesses of each document.
    • Outline what each of the major war nations achieved and lost according to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles.
    • Support your assertions by making at least 2 references to your course readings.

THIS IS A TWO PART DISCUSSION PLEASE WRITE SEPARATE

PART 1

The Importance of Play

Children learn as they play and, while playing, they learn how to learn.  Take a moment to read the article The importance of play in promoting healthy child development and maintaining strong parent-child bonds (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..  Then, think about the childhood games that you played.  Share your favorite playtime activity with your classmates and explain why it was your favorite.  Describe what you learned from your play and how it enhanced your development as a child.  Using your own experience with play and the information in the reading,(SEE ATTACHED FILE) also describe five takeaways from each article that you will use to support play and enhance the development of children under your supervision.

PART 2

Life

Life as we know it will change for the next generation, and those changes must be accounted for in child development. Today, television and media, the changing nuclear family, and new parenting styles play a large part in the life of a child. Research tells us that viewing violent television programs or playing violence-themed games contributes to increased aggressiveness in children. We also know that the break-up of the nuclear family and “super-parenting” can have detrimental effects on a child’s emotional and social development. It may sound difficult, but as a caregiver, you will need to find the positive influences that can enhance development and learning in all situations. Explain what you can do to help prevent the negative influences of media, parenting, and the nuclear family, and ensure their positive influence on child growth and development. Share your own beliefs about these three areas, and how you will avoid any personal bias in your approach.

How Should We Change?

This week you explored various aspects of how the world is changing and, consequently, the new kinds of learning and thinking that are needed of students, workers, and society in general. Moreover, the pace of change is increasing exponentially. How does this make you feel as an education professional? How will education and educators need to change in response? What will be the consequences if educators do not pay attention to this call to action?

By Wednesday

Post a summary of your thoughts on changes needed in education and educators in the 21st century and the potential consequences of not responding to the need for change.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings. As you read their responses, note those to which you would like to respond with advice, questions, comments, and/or encouragement.

By Sunday

Respond to two or more of your colleagues’ postings in any of the following ways:

  • Build on something your colleague said.
  • Explain why and how you see things differently.
  • Ask a probing or clarifying question.
  • Share an insight from having read your colleague’s posting.
  • Offer and support an opinion.
  • Validate an idea with your own experience.
  • Expand on your colleague’s posting.
  • Ask for evidence that supports the posting.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Reflect on what you learned in this activity and/or insights you gained t

 Epistemological Orientation
Please respond to the following:

  • Which epistemological orientation (pragmatism, objectivism or interpretivism) is most closely aligned with your own experience? Explain how this bias may affect your understanding of learning theory.
  • Of the three orientations, is one better than the others? No matter how you answer, explain your rationale.

Behaviorism Criticized
Please respond to the following:

Describe a learning situation in which you or another person had difficulty in achieving a desired performance. Develop a plan to improve performance using the techniques discussed in this chapter.

  • What are some possible objections you could raise to the radical behaviorist model of learning?
  • Applying these objections to the plan you just developed, which part is the most likely to fail? What might you do to “fix” it?

Please respond to the peer.

A learning situation in which I had a difficult situation with achieving a desired performance was when my niece was having trouble staying focused in class and acting out in class as well. A plan that I would develop to improve performance in class was to remove her desired iPhone from her possession until she shows great improvement with her behavior in class. I would speak with her instructor and explain what was occurring. My niece would have to have her teacher sign a document that I drafted stating that my niece was satisfying her behavior goal every day. What could fail in this, is that my niece could not be truthful with me with getting her teacher to sign the documentation, having someone to forge the teacher signature. What I could do to fix this would be to make sure I follow up with the teacher, establishing a good rapport with the teacher first, and doing a personal phone call to make sure that my niece was adherent to the desired behavior change.
