Pros and Cons of Using Educational Technology in Schools

Explore four of the sources listed under the “Using Technology in Schools” section of the Week One Resources document. If long, skim the source to get the main ideas. Choose two sources that focus on the pros of technology in schools, and two sources that focus on the cons of using technology in schools. Alternatively, you can choose up to two of the sources that focus on both the pros and cons for two of your four choices.

Initial Post

  • List the title of each the sources you chose, and list the main points or arguments made by each author.
  • Next, give your opinion of the content you explored, focusing on the questions below. Elaborate on your opinions, citing each source to support your ideas.
    • How can technology best be used in schools?
    • What factors contribute to successful technology use in schools?
    • Are there some technologies that should not be used in schools?
    • Should we stop trying to integrate technology in schools?

the four learning patterens for paper are sequence, precise, technial reasoning, and confluent

Then, in a five-paragraph essay that is two to three pages in length, please address the following:

  • Paragraph 1: How would you explain the concept of learning to someone who has not taken this class? In Week 1 you were asked to define the term learning.  Review the explanations given in the textbook and look back at your original definition.  Compare that definition with what you know now.  What would you change or add to your original response? How has your view of learning changed as a result of this class?
  • Paragraph 2: List your Learning Patterns and describe how you used them to your advantage to be successful in this course.  What strategies did you use to complete readings, discussions, assignments, and quizzes?  Connect each strategy with the corresponding Learning Pattern(s).
  • Paragraph 3: Describe the challenges that you may face in the online classroom due to your unique combination of Learning Patterns. How will you self-regulate your Learning Patterns to overcome these challenges and what strategies and resources will you use to be a more intentional learner in future courses?
  • Paragraph 4: Imagine you are applying for your dream job. The interviewer says, “I see you’ve taken EXP 105.”  Explain to the interviewer the three most important things you learned in the course and how your knowledge of those concepts can help you in the work environment.  In other words, what will you bring to the table as a future employee?
  • Paragraph 5: Reflect on the past five weeks and describe what you enjoyed most about this class and what you would change about the class.  What were your expectations when you began this course? Considering the course content, online learning platform, and interactions with your peers and instructor, were your expectations met? Why, or why not?

This assignment must be double spaced, written in Times New Roman 12-pt. font, and submitted to Waypoint as a Microsoft Word document.

Customized Learning Theory Paper – Final Paper Instructions

This assignment will allow you to create your own customized theory of human learning and development. Everyone operates with a theory of what makes the best learning environment and how people grow and develop. The problem is that most education professionals’ theories are neither well-informed nor articulated clearly. Thus, for this paper, you will articulate your theory of establishing the best learning environment. You will support it by using theoretical perspectives of what defines the best in education, within a Christian perspective. Your theory will be created by completing the steps below. This assignment will be completed in 2 stages: an Annotated Bibliography (due Module/Week 5) and a Final Paper (due Module/Week 8). Your finished paper will give you a conceptual framework from which to draw strategies and practices for the success of all parties involved in the teaching-learning process.

The paper must be a total of 6 pages: 4 pages for the body, 1 title page, and 1 reference page. It must include at least 6 scholarly sources from Liberty’s online library databases, plus both textbooks (Slavin and VanBrummelen). The library databases can be located at:  http://www.liberty.edu/library/. All sources must be within the past 5 years. If you have more than the minimum required sources, be assured that points will not be deducted.

Throughout your paper, you must also weave a solid Biblical basis for your theory, and provide support with many specific scriptures that are each referenced with chapter and verse. Your CLT paper should be concise, well-developed, and in current APA format.

You may find it useful to focus on the educational area in which you intend to serve (elementary, middle, or high school, gifted, ADHD, special education, etc.). Information for your educational theory can be found throughout all the activities completed during this course.

Throughout the paper, it is essential that you demonstrate your understanding of the readings and course work. Your learning theory must be unified and congruent. Design your paper by using the following headings in your paper:

I.                    Introduction

II.                 Learning Theory and Its Importance

III.  Description of an Effective Teacher and Learning Environment (Be sure to include discussions of direct instruction, technology, motivation, and classroom management. See below.)

IV.  Learning Characteristics (How does your customized theory address multimodalities and ability grouping?)

V.    Personal Reflection (What is the relationship of your personal learning styles profile, study skills inventory, and philosophical methodology of learning profile to creating your customized learning theory?)

VI.              Conclusion

When writing section 2, you need to integrate 3 or more of the developmental learning theories (i.e., Piaget, Kholberg, Yvgotsky, Erickson, etc.) studied in this course, as they relate to your educational area and population. Be sure to incorporate specific theoretical terminology that demonstrates your understanding of each of the theories. Then, throughout your paper, support your customized learning theory from both a developmental and Biblical perspective. In the third section—the description of an effective teacher and learning environment—you will gather some valuable information from Chapter 1 of your Slavin textbook, which discusses an effective teacher. Think about what influence direct instruction has on your learning theory from Chapter 7. Also consider what ability-grouping methods would be most effective according to your learning theory, and why, from Chapter 8. Do not forget to discuss technology in your learning environment from Chapter 9. The type of motivations that would be included in your theory could be gleaned from Chapter 10. How you can prevent problems or distractions in your learning environment can be found in Chapter 11.

The fifth section of your paper is going to be a personal reflection on all of the different inventories you took throughout the course. You will be describing your personal learning styles, study skills, and learning methodologies. The use of first person is acceptable where appropriate. Substantiate your assumptions with scholarly sources. Why is understanding the way you learn important for having an effective learning theory? How will this lead to academic success?

Attached is the guidlines, rubric and the paper I submitted.

Can my paper be brought up to the guidlines standard?

I submitted a pre-research proposal ( you will see attached) The instructor said :

I took a look at what you sent. Here is what I think: This may prove to be a good research topic. However, you have to identify the research problem more clearly, and more importantly, you have to validate the research problem, i.e., showing with what you have found in the prior research studies, what has been done to address the problem by the prior research studies (note here, they have to be research studies) and why the prior research hasn’t successfully addressed or resolved the problem, and hence, there is still the need to propose another study, your study, to attempt to resolve the problem. I think more work needs to be done.

Also, you have to take a look at the guidelines for the research proposal and follow the required structure of the this assignment, i.e., the sections and elements that should be included.
