Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can be defined as “a set of principles for curriculum development that gives all individuals equal opportunities to learn” (CAST, n.d.).
Differentiation can be defined as meeting students at their current level of readiness and then planning instruction around individual needs. When combining these two theories, classroom instruction becomes engaging, dynamic, and inclusive.
Using one of the following free online presentation tools listed below, create an interactive presentation that:
a) Compares and contrasts the two concepts b) Explains how you envision blending the concepts in your current or future classroom.
In your presentation be sure to include:
How you will present new information
How students will demonstrate their prior background knowledge
Your strategies to engage and motivate students
At least two scholarly resources from Ashford’s Online Library or Google scholar relating to the theoretical foundation of UDL and/or differentiation.
All in-text citations included must be cited in APA format at the conclusion of your post.
Post your link along with a brief introduction in your initial post.
1. How is the concept of equity related to gender roles and parenting?
2. What behaviors do parents and teachers participate in that may unconsciously send messages to children about their interests and capabilities and why is it important that ECE professionals are aware of these messages?
3. why would they be meaningful for your personal or professional life?
1. How is the concept of equity related to gender roles and parenting?
When incomes to gender roes of equality for female or male don’t believe it is equal or ever will be according to the book. It shows that men have a higher success rate than women and even though it talks about video games improve scores. I believe women can have the same success rate as men. “When we look into socialization of males and females it seems as if boys and girls simply learn the respective roles and that is all there is to do, but obviously that is not all there is to it.” (Gonzalez-Mena, page 243). When it comes to parenting I was shown both genders of sex that everything is the achievable regardless of sex.
2. What behaviors do parents and teachers participate in that may unconsciously send messages to children about their interests and capabilities and why is it important that ECE professionals are aware of these messages?
Children are always watching and observing our action or speech of words that adults say when they are around children. “What makes all this more difficult is that children often see power differential that is determined by gender.” (Gonzalez-Mena, page 254). The most powerful thing that children see these examples is from the television because some parents let their child watch television without restricting them things they should not be watching at that age. When they see or hear something from adults, teachers, and peers they may think that it is okay to act upon these actions from what they are seeing or what they are hearing. Sometimes we as parents are even aware that our child is watching or listening. Parents, peers and teachers show behaviors that must be on check and show a good example for these young children to follow. It is important that early childhood development because professionals are there to work with children and should be equipped to help the children learn and grow. There are four main areas that children should be learning which they are snail and emotional, language/communication, movement/physical development, and cognitive learning that involves learning, thinking and problem-solving. It is important for young children to know all four of those areas as they start to grow because that will help them when they go on in life.
3. Why would they be meaningful for your personal life?
The one I would be able to use in my professional life would be “help children develop awareness of sexist stereotypes.”(Gonzalez-Mena, page 258). I would like like to show the children that it is not right that they should not point out people like they are shown at home. It would be a good thing that children know the sexist when it comes up during school such as books and in the television. There are many ways children could learn that, but parents should also show their children at home so children know that people should not be pointed out like that.

Choose a complex text (nonfiction article, excerpt from a novel, chapter/unit from a textbook, passage used on standardized test, etc) that is on grade 5 level for the class you are teaching and provide the lexile level.
Talk about what makes it a complex text according to the definition of what makes a text complex and who it would be complex for in your classroom.
Explain
-what you would do to make this passage more accessible for your low leveled readers (students reading two or more grade levels below)
-what strategies you would use with your on grade level readers
-how you would challenge your students reading above grade level.
# 2
Find a writing sample of a student in grades PreK-12 and critique the writing sample providing explicit feedback, areas for improvement, and pedagogical techniques for development that include building from the student’s relative strengths, background knowledge, and cultural funds of knowledge (skills and ideals taught at home/as part of a cultural group) as applicable.
# 3
Address two or more of the following three questions in your response:
Some schools promote sustained silent reading during instructional time, though the practice is fading from many programs. Even more rarely is extended time devoted to in-class writing exercises. With the bevy of technological shifts in writing that have occurred over the last 20 years (i.e., blogging, emails, texts, fan fiction), what purpose do traditional means of writing (i.e., handwriting, penmanship, cursive) play towards a learner’s development today?
Using the Lawrence et al. (2013) article, discuss two types of notebooks can be used across the content areas to reflect a learner’s thinking and content knowledge acquisition.
Discuss a few best-selling and award winning author techniques that align with your own approaches to writing from the Sampson et al. (2016) article.
# 4
How might content area teachers develop a sense of genre and knowledge of rhetoric to prepare their students for the world beyond school?
Use the rhetorical theories from your reading to support your response.
# 5
Discuss your perspectives on what is the appropriate place of “voice” in non-fiction writing. How does a given content area (like Social Studies, Science, or Mathematics) view this concept in terms of written communication? What might be done to improve our instruction of voice in elementary, middle, and high school grades?
#6
Examine the writing samples provided in “Writing Sample A”. Score the student ONLY on sentence fluency using the rubric attached out of 5 and provide a detailed rationale for this score.
How would you instruct the student to revise this writing, paying specific attention to sentence fluency and conventions? Make specific suggestions and explain what mini lessons and instructional tools and strategies you could provide this student.
In this final discussion, reflect upon your overall learning experience and relate it to your earned specialization and/or advanced degree as well as your current or future practice serving at-risk children and families. Your reflection must include the learning you have gained about the topics of this course and learning from the creation of your website. Review the Week Six Instructor Guidance to further support your response to this discussion. You may respond to this discussion in written form, or through a video and/or audio recording of yourself using the digital technology of your choosing.
Initial Post: Create an initial post that addresses the following:
What new insights have you obtained about at-risk children and families overall?
What specific concepts have you learned that have left a more lasting impression or impact on you? How and/or why have these concepts impacted you more significantly than others?
What affirmations have you gained about your current or future role working with at-risk children and families from reflecting on your learning? Be sure to indicate what your professional focus is (e.g., education, early childhood education, family and community service, etc.).
How has the construction and review of others’ websites added value to your learning experience? Include challenges you may have experienced during the process and how you overcame them.
