Observe a task group somewhere in your organization or community with at least six members. Answer the following questions:
- Who are the formal and informal leaders of the group?
- Who are the followers, and how can you tell?
- What evidence is there, if any, of the developmental level of followers?
- What observed leader behaviors would fall in the categories of delegating, supporting, coaching, or directing? How well do the displayed leader behaviors fit the developmental level of the followers?
- Are all followers treated the same way? Explain.
- Would the leaders benefit from applying the situational approach to this group?
- How useful is direct observation of group process in determining leader style and follower development?
