Design Principles and Applications
This assignment will be an analysis of specific case studies that you
have chosen based on the specialisms offered in the MA Design. You will
present written and argued perspectives based on theory, research and
practice.
- Read the literature relevant to your chosen theme. Make sure you
include peer-reviewed articles and be careful with the credibility of
online sources. Read as carefully and objectively as you can.
- Define the design principles relevant to your theme that have
emerged from theory, research and practice.
- Select and analyse attentively two case studies.
• Case Study 1: an unsuccessful example that dismisses the design
principles.
• Case Study 2: a successful example that uses design principles.
- After becoming thoroughly familiar with these case studies, identify
the key problems of Case Study 1 (unsuccessful example) and the key
benefits of Case Study 2 (successful example).
- For Case Study 1, propose alternative solutions to the identified
problems by applying the design principles. Present the chosen
solution(s) in detail (written and graphically).
