The system we are proposing to implement is the IBM’s “DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition which provides a comprehensive database solution for the enterprise. It is the ideal multi-workload database solution that offers data warehousing and transactional and analytics capabilities in one package. Available in multiple pricing metrics, IBM DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition places no restriction on processor limit or memory size. It provides storage optimization, highly reliable system availability, workload management and performance to help reduce overall database costs.” (IBM.com). This database software is recommended over oracle due to cost effectiveness. This software and licensing will cost about $100,000 a year while oracle for similar package will cost about $200,000 a year. This system will store information in a distributed database architecture to allow employees access to both local and remote databases. It will include:

1)      A central ordering system

a.       Will control how ordering, manufacturing and shipping data is flowed throughout business operations

b.      Will allow for efficient regulatory reporting

2)      Active Data Warehouse

a.       Content to be available in real time via company intranet

b.      Will allow Marketing, Finance and Accounting ability to view, query and analyze data from all locations

i.      Use data to calculate costs more accurately and optimize pricing
