Problem 13-9

The Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model is a classical model used for controlling inventory and satisfying demand. Costs included in the model are holding cost per unit, ordering cost and the cost of goods ordered. The assumptions for that model are: only a single item is considered; the entire quantity ordered arrives at one time; the demand for the item is constant over time; no shortages are allowed.

Suppose we relax the first assumption and allow for multiple items which are independent except for a budget restriction. The following model describes this situation:

Let Dj =annual demand for item jCj =unit cost of item jSj =cost per order placed for item jwj =space required for item jW =the maximum amount of space available for all goodsi =inventory carrying charge as a percentage of the cost per unitN =number of itemsThe decision variables are Qj, the amount of item j to order. The model is:

Minimizes.t.      Qj ≥ 0 j = 1,2,…NIn the objective function, the first term is the annual cost of goods, the second is the annual ordering cost (Dj/Qj is the number of orders) and the last term is the annual inventory holding cost (Qj/2 is the average amount of inventory).

Set up a spreadsheet model for the following data:

Item 1Item 2Item 3Annual Demand2,0002,0001,500Item Cost$80$50$70Order Cost$160$135$125Space Required (sq.ft.)502540W = 4,000

i = 0.2

Solve the problem using Excel Solver. Hint: You will need to start with decision variable values that are greater than 0 for Solver to find a solution.

If required, round your answers to two decimal places.

Optimal Solution:

Q1 =

Q2 =

Q3 =

If required, round your answer to the nearest dollar.

Total cost = $

In this assignment, you will create an annotated bibliography about crime prevention research and initiatives aimed at reducing juvenile delinquency and subsequent adult criminal behavior. You will continue to utilize the research developed in the annotated bibliography as you prepare for the assignments in Units 4 and 5.

What is an annotated bibliography?

This is a bibliography that includes brief explanations or notes for each reference. An annotated bibliography helps the researcher determine which sources are relevant to a line of inquiry. This determination is based on a summary of the work, an evaluation of its credibility, and its applicability to what you are specifically writing about. Each annotation should be between 100–150 words.

Visit and read examples from the recommended resources that the CTU Library provides about the annotated bibliography:

  • This site gives an explanation of what an annotated bibliography is and the process of creating one. Be sure you check the format of your own work with the assignment and your instructor.
    • How to Prepare an Annotated Bibliography: The Annotated Bibliography
  • This site gives an overview of the annotated bibliography and samples in APA and other formats. Be sure you check the format of your own work with the assignment and your instructor.
    • Annotated Bibliography Samples

Examples of topics to search:

  • Articles on juvenile delinquency and its causes
  • Articles on theory that address juvenile delinquency
  • Government or nonadvocate, nonprofit organization Web pages for statistics
  • Peer-reviewed articles and academic journal articles

What are peer-reviewed references?

Peer-reviewed references are those documents that have been written and subsequently reviewed by experts or scholars in a specific field. Examples in criminology and criminal justice include: Criminology, the Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, and Justice Quarterly. Do not use an article that is more than 5–7 years old unless it is considered foundational in the field.

Annotations Versus Abstracts

Abstracts are the purely descriptive summaries often found at the beginning of scholarly journal articles or in periodical indexes. Annotations are descriptive and critical; they expose the author’s point of view, clarity, and appropriateness of expression and authority.

Assignment Guidelines

  • First, search for books, periodicals, and information related to your topic of study. Take your time to look them over and see what the authors are describing in their work, and then make a decision on which material would have the most impact upon your paper.
  • Select a minimum of 10–15 sources that you will use for your annotated bibliography.
  • For each selected source, complete the following:
    • Make an APA reference for the material.
    • Write a brief description that summarizes the central theme of the material.
      • Evaluate the credibility of the source, comment on the intended audience, compare or contrast this work with other sources that you have referenced, and explain how this work relates to your topic.
  • All references should be in APA style.

Complete 2 page APA formatted essay: The leadership skill I most want to develop.

This was followed by exploration of available list of leadership skills that singled out most suitable ones for my leadership style. I conducted an online evaluation of my leadership style through responding to traits based questions and the process matched my traits with transformational leadership. My further exploration of the fundamental characteristics of the leadership style such as empowering and motivating people together with promoting collectiveness developed my insight into my leadership skills and other necessary skills to the leadership style. Based on this process, I identified translation of business strategies into clear objectives and tactics, and training other people in developing their skills as my strongest leadership skills. My weakest leadership skills are however, the ability to prepare people to understand changes and transitions, and managing multiple demands and competing priorities. I know that these are my strongest and weakest leadership skills because of my self-evaluation together with background information on leadership.

The leadership skill that I most wish to develop is the ability to prepare people to understanding changes and transitions. My specific objective in developing this skill is to be able to empower people to the capacity in which they can understand a change its consequences, and strategies to dealing with the change. I will measure progress of the development through qualitative evaluation of my subjects understanding of change at a particular time. This will involve presenting a change situation to the subjects, sampling them, and using interviews to evaluate their understanding of the change. I will then compare their responses with the actual scope of the subject change. I will need secondary resources such as published books and journals with information on strategies to developing human potentials. I will also require human resource in management

Create a 3 page essay paper that discusses I do not have a topic.

This created an issue among her contemporaries criticizing her use of the language in her writings (Women in History). Depicted and massively explored in her works was the culture of the African-Americans effectively portrayed with her much controversial use of the common African-American language. An example of the usage of the black language can be read in one of her books, “So when we looked at de picture and everybody got pointed out there wasn’t nobody left except a real dark little girl with long hair standing by Eleanor. Dat’s where Ah wuz s’posed to be, but Ah couldn’t recognize dat dark chile as me. So Ah ast, ‘where is me? Ah don’t see me. (Hurston 13)” These realistic depictions appropriately displayed the life and culture of the African-Americans during her time. The writing style she had developed celebrated the Black culture incorporating dances, songs, sayings and tales. Moreover, her writings bluntly focused on the slavery issue which was deliberately avoided by other Harlem Renaissance writers.

Her part in the feminist literature was also noted when she invaded the male dominated literary scene during that period. Female characters are eminent in Zora’s works addressing feminist issues like the character Janie Crawford in her book “Their Eyes Were Watching God” (Hurston, Zora Neale Introduction).

Some writers who have been influenced by Hurston’s works were Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison, Gayle Jones, Alice Walker, and Toni Cade Bambara. These writers specifically take after Hurston’s writings dealing with racism and feminism issues.

Contrary to the criticisms hurled at Hurston’s works during her era, Zora contributed not only to the black American literature but also to the feminist literature and racist literature. Furthermore, her written works served as valuable reference of oral cultures of the African Americans and revolutionizing a comprehensive
