Write a 2 pages paper on security essentials 4.4. Indian Level Prison The Indian level prison was established in 1860 by the Indian security department to curb rising insecurity in India. The facility offers maximum protection for capital offenders whom it aims to rehabilitate. Lethal offenders are housed in single cells while those with lesser charges are detained in dormitories fitted with steel doors and grills due to overcrowding. The facility is equipped with CCTV cameras in all its buildings to ensure twenty-four hour surveillance of the convicts and the activities in the prison. A slippery perimeter wall surrounds the prison with watchtowers at every corner to ensure no escapes. Averagely the institution retains a population of two thousand two hundred and ninety convicts.

Prior to the admission of any offender to the Indiana Level 1 Prison, proper considerations are made basing on the type of offense committed. The offenses that meet a maximum imprisonment in Indian level 1 prison are capital crimes including murder, robbery with violence and terror among others (Smith, 2014). The second criterion is the length of the sentence. Offenders convicted for ten years and above are eligible for detention in the facility. The institution also admits convicts awaiting capital sentences like hanging, death by shooting or injection. Criminal history is a third criterion for eligibility into India level 1 prison. Offenders with multiple criminal records suffer admission into the facility while fast offenders may be pardoned into minimum prisons. The service offers intake programs to newly admitted offenders. During the intake, each offender is evaluated through interviews, analysis of his medical reports and admission of diagnostic tests. The evaluation process serves the purpose of forming the convict’s facility and program assignment (Smith, 2014). It includes the activities that the convict will engage and appropriate tasks marching his ability and health condition.

Indian level 1 prison being a maximum prison keeps the records of the convict’s information. It includes the offender’s credentials, home, place of resident and contacts. The security officers manage the prisoner’s accounts with an aim of rehabilitating the convict appropriately. The facility offers visitation services to the inmate’s relatives and friends. All the visitors are entered into the offenders approved visitors list (Smith, 2014). The visitation day and time varies, convicts at Indian level 1 prison are visited once after every 14 days. The visiting time lasts from two to three hours. Before visiting one, is required t make earlier booking to avoid inconveniences.

The Indian level 1 prison has over the years adopted various rehabilitation strategies to help offenders live crime free lives. The reconstruction methods used on a convict, however, depend on the sentence of individual prisoners. Punishment has been the widely used rehabilitation strategy for capital offenders like murderous, sex offenders and robbers. The sentence includes physical methods like whips on the convicts. Denial of food, hard labor and detention in dark rooms for long periods are also used as corrective measures on the convicts. Research conducted on the effectiveness of punishment as a corrective measure on convicts indicates that it psychologically and physically harms the convicts. For this reason, the facility adopted methods like counseling and the gospel as remedial measures for maladapted behavior. The facility also engages the convicts in productive behaviors like farming, mechanics, carpentry and other economically driven practices to sharpen the skills of the offenders. It mainly is aimed at enabling the convicts’ live independent lives after prison.

In summation, the Indian level 1 prison offers best maximum detention for capital offenders. The security system ranging from the buildings to the surveillance cameras are designed to prevent escapes.
