Summary and Analysis of a Secondary Text

In this assignment, we continue to explore the theme of gender within short fiction with Charlotte Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper.” In this case, however, we will be turning our attention to a secondary text, meaning an article written about the story. The text in question is called “‘The Yellow Wallpaper’: Another Diagnosis” by Alan Brown, which you will find in the Files section of Canvas. The Assignment will be divided into two parts:

  • one paragraph (half-to-three quarters of a page) summarizing the article
  • one paragraph (half-to-three quarters of a page) responding to the main idea(s) of the article

In the first paragraph, you will be using the skills of summary you developed in 111. In the second, you will discuss the article in the light of ideas we have discussed in class or which you have had in reading the story.

Format: double-spaced, MLA
