Option #2: Improving Workplace Communication

Based on the article from the weekly-required readings entitled, “Workplace communication problems: Inquiries by employees and applicable solutions ( https://search-proquest-com.csuglobal.idm.oclc.org/docview/1542023353?accountid=38569)

Links to an external site.,” with a specific focus on the section Communication Skills Education is a Priority, imagine a scenario within a team where poor communication is prevalent and basic communication skills, both oral and written, are sorely lacking. Imagine leading this team and develop a plan with at least three action items to move the team from poor communication to effective oral and written communication.

Research proven communication methods through four scholarly journal articles. Conclude the plan with justification as to why the three action items are the best choices.

Make sure your well-developed plan includes critical thinking in which leadership communication is demonstrated, in conjunction with scholarly writing attributes and professionalism.

Your well-written plan must adhere to the following parameters:

Be 3-4 pages in length, not including the title and reference pages.

Be supported by four scholarly references. Remember, you must support your thinking and prior knowledge with references; all facts must be supported; in-text references used throughout the assignment must be included in an APA-formatted reference list.

After the death of Moses, Joshua was established as the leader of the tribes of Israel. He was command to do specific things in order to be victorious over the powerful surrounding nations. He was not told to physically and mentally train harder or study the culture and philosophies of the adversaries. He was instructed to keep the Law (Torah – instructions, teachings and guidance of God) in his mouth by meditating on it both day and night. To meditate is to say something over and over again while thinking about the content. This action causes whatever you are meditating on to get into the heart (spirit/soul) Joshua 1:5-9

Joshua was informed that if he must did according to the instructions, not allowing anything to distract his focus, he would “make his way prosperous” and “have good success.” Think about that. He would make his own way prosperous and enjoy good success. The Lord did not say that He would do it. He is the One who placed the principle (law) into motion from “in the beginning” to cause the designed effects. Deuteronomy 8:18 bears witness to this principle. God says that He “gives you the power to get wealth… ” It does not state that He gives you wealth. He empowers you to obtain it. It is interesting that in Joshua 1:8 the word “success” can be interpreted this way as well: to do wisely or act out that which pertains to wisdom.

Write a 2 page essay on Reasons for American Civil War.

Southern states pursued an agrarian economy at a time when the north was pursuing industrialization. This meant development of different social cultures and political ideologies and ultimately disagreements on over issues of taxation, trade tariffs and the question of state versus federal rights. A major conflict that disrupted the union was the debate concerning slavery and its future. The dispute over slavery resulted in a war where states in the north and west wanted preservation of the union while southern states were pushing for a new and independent confederation of southern states with its constitution. The agrarian southern states largely relied on slaves to supply free labor while northern states were gradually abolishing slavery.

A major constitutional compromise came in 1787 and would later be known as the Three-Fifths-Compromise over how to count slaves for purposes of determination total populations in states for the important reasons of taxation and elective representation. The south wanted slaves to be counted as full persons while the north opposed on the account that they did not have rights to vote. A compromise was stricken to count “all other persons” as just 3/5 of their actual total number. The Compromise of 1850 is yet another one arrived at between the North and South diffusing a political disputed that had lasted four years surrounding the status of those territories that were acquired in the 1846-1846 Mexican-American War.

The Fugitive Slave Act was therefore amended to abolish slave trade in Washing D.C, force Texas surrender its claims to New Mexico & its claims north of the Missouri Compromise Line, admit California to the union as a free state and prevent the adoption of the famous Wilmot Proviso. The Missouri Compromise was also cantered on the same territories from the U.S-Mexican War which had heightened the debate on slavery. Abolished pushed to have slavery outlawed in the

Do you agree with the outcome below? Why? Support your decision.

Jonathan Dough, 32 years old, was convicted by a jury of Aggravated Assault. The trial lasted for 2 days. Dough’s defense was that he was too intoxicated to have committed the crime.

Before rendering a sentence, the judge (you) requests a presentence investigation (PSI) be conducted. The PSI reveals the following information:

  • Dough has been married for the past 10 years.
  • Dough has 2 children: a girl (7) and a boy (3).
  • Dough has lived in the same house for the past 12 years.
  • Dough has a bachelor’s degree and is currently enrolled in an MBA program.
  • Dough has had 7 jobs with 7 different employers over the past 10 years. He has never been with the same employer for more than 2 years.
  • When he was 24 years old, Dough was convicted of Driving Under the Influence (DUI). His conviction resulted in a first-time, nonviolent offender program that included: 6 months of suspended driving privileges, a $250 fine, Safe Driving School, a substance abuse counseling program, and a 1-year probation. Upon successful completion of the program, his criminal record was to be expunged.
  • At 29 years old, Dough was again arrested and convicted of DUI. He was sentenced to 60 days of incarceration (served during 30 weekends), 1 year of suspended driving privileges, a $300 fine, Safe Driving School, a substance abuse counseling program, and a 1-year probation.

With this information, formulate and develop a sentence for Dough that meets 1 or more of the following goals of corrections: rehabilitation, restitution, deterrence, incarceration, or punishment. Explain why your sentence meets the goals of corrections.

OUTCOME:

I would sentence Dough to ninety days incarceration, a one thousand dollar fine, a manditory substance abuse counseling program and three years probation. I thought the original sentence he received a year ago was fair, and this the second offense should mirror it in a more severe way. This would give him a second chance in changing his behavior (rehabilitate) for his family before a more serious punishment is warranted. This would also allow him to still face a more severe punishment than the first one to try and further deter him from putting himself in the same situation.

I think that this is a fair punishment and helps put a good emphasis on community corrections. This give the offender another opportunity to change his behavior in a less severe way and limits the cost it puts on the tax payer (Seiter, 2017). Community corrections is getting much more support in todays age then ever before (Applegate, Cullen, Fisher, 1997) and this example makes a great opportunity to capitalize on rehabilitating Dough. I do believe that some people are meant to serve time behind bars but dough is not one of them. He needs to have some degree of a more severe punishment but locking him up does not benefit him, his family or our society as much as another change to change his behavior.
