Child Protection in Cyberspace: There is little to debate with regard to the fact that the Internet provides children with new ways to express themselves, learn and build friendships. The internet is today a valuable learning tool for children that cannot be replaced, substituted or taken away. However, there is also little to debate about the fact that the Internet poses grave and serious risks to children. Far too often, unsupervised children use computer chat rooms and there are singled out, approached, stalked, harmed, and sometimes killed by pedophiles. The problem will surely increase as a growing number of children get access to the Internet worldwide. Although there has been law passed for the protection of children, still not enough is being done to keep children safe. We must teach children how to protect themselves and must also teach parents and teachers how to protect children against abuse. While each state may have its own laws in place for the protection of children, child abusers are not confined by state lines. We must develop more effective laws to punish child abusers and pedophiles once they are identified. Develop a testable hypothesis with regard to state, national and international laws that address child protection in cyberspace.
