What did the United States gain in terms of territory, national prestige, and strategic security as a result of the Spanish-American War?

This particular war put an end to Spain’s empire with respect to the western hemisphere.  It also left United States in a position with power, specifically a Pacific power, and it allowed the United States to put their mark in the Caribbean which would led to the pursuit of important strategic and economic interests that we had in connection with Asia.  Some accomplishments with respect to military forces were that the U.S. conquered the Spanish in a battle of San Juan Heights, and they destroyed the Spanish fleet in Santiago Bay, Cuba, wherein shortly thereafter the Spanish surrendered at Santiago Bay.  In August, 1898 both Spain and the U.S. proceeded to sign a peace protocol which would terminate any hostilities between the two.  Thereafter, the Treaty of Paris was executed by the U.S. and Spain which gave the United States all control over Puerto Rico, Guam, the Philippines and Cuba.  All of these U.S. efforts gave them more territory, more strategic security and prestige, as they were seen as being victorious.
