The poem does seem a bit sad as she is depicted among ‘stones, garbage, excrement and crumbs’ (line 8) however, it could also be that she is keeping her dignity amidst the dirt as she is described ‘watching her cross erect’ on line 7 and that she was ‘high on her head’ (line 5). The imagery is quite strong in line 8 as the poet writes the words in its most basest form when he mentions excrement. It is quite opposite to the beautiful imagery that would be presented later on in Shakespeare’s ‘Shall I compare thee to a Summer’s Day’ that stresses beauty. ‘Sindhi Woman’ is emblematic of the many modern poems of today as it is open to the daily drudgery and the stark nudity of the setting. The two lines could also emphasize that on the surface she is within the dirtiest situations but allegorically she is also keeping herself with pride and dignity. There is also evidence of consonance as Stallworthy mentions ‘barefoot through the bazaar’ (line 1) and ‘who learn to walk beneath the weight’ (line 12). Also, the rhyming is feminine as it occurs on an unstressed syllable ‘stones, garbage, excrement and crumbs’ (line 8) and ‘of glass in Karachi slums’ (line 9). It is also ironic that the observer mentions him/her self as ‘I, with my stoop, reflect’ (line 10) and comparing themselves to the Sindhi woman who was walking through the bazaar with a jar on her head but managing to walk straight amidst her difficult situation, as I suppose the setting imagery that Stallworthy was aiming at was the poverty in which the Sindhi Woman was in but she doesn’t manage to see the poverty as she was walking straight ahead, as if not caring. The poet also manages to manipulate the use of caesura to emphasize the lines ‘I, with my stoop, reflect’ (line 10) as if to indicate the observer himself is pausing on this reflection of thought. Although the prior ten lines sounds on a less stress therefore on a falling note the as the author manages to use the vowel sound ‘uu’ while the last two lines are stronger when he uses ‘straight’ and ‘weight’.

The second poem is William Blakes’ ‘Auguries of Innocence’. The first four lines of this poem are famous and is quoted many, many times but the content of the poem is more descriptive and interconnected while the first four lines seem to stand on their own as the rest of the poem has a different rhyming scheme but the first stanza’s rhyming scheme is ‘a,b,a,b’, probably Blake’s intention was that it could be seen that the rhyming scheme is different the first part is different than the rest and as an explanatory to the poem. Blake’s poetry spans from his lifetime around the mid 18th century to the early 19th century, the time when the Industrial Revolution was blooming. Many traditional aspects of English life during this time is much changed due to the introduction of a mass market economy. ‘Auguries of Innocence’ reflects this moment of time when much of Europe was in disarray due to many Revolutions to overthrow monarchical autocracy especially in France. The first four parts seem to express to the reader to understand the content of the poem.
