Create a 3 page essay paper that discusses Elder Abuse.

The Korea National Statistical Office projects that this figure might increase to 23.1% by year 2030. Such a rapid growth of the elderly in the population shows that there will also be an increase in elderly people with disabilities in South Korean households (Minhong 709).

Contrary to western states,

the elderly in South Korea are under the care of their adult children. The report by KNSO in the year 2000 shows that 55.1% of people who were 65 years and above still lived with their children. Nonetheless, due to the social changes in South Korea, most families are adopting the nuclear structure and the multi-generational arrangement is now declining. Elder abuse in domestic setting is increasing in South Korea, with the current social and economic changes in the country. More women are now in the workforces, who were generally the traditional care givers, caring for the elderly with disability is also expensive when the adult children are on a stiff budget. The increasing demographic changes in South Korea and the high level of inadequate formal social services have led to the increasing rates of elder abuse. Additionally, the Korean government is still reluctant to fund any project that involves the opening of home care facilities.

The method of collecting this data was through the process of gathering data from human service agencies and nursing agencies in Seoul. The participants were mostly the caregivers who consisted of 78.6% females and 21.4% males. Different measures were taken into consideration such as the impairments of the care recipients, the burdens of caregivers and caregiver’s economic strain and involvement. The results showed that 10.5% of family caregivers did not answer their recipients’ calls, 10.9% caregivers yelled 18% confined the elders, 9.7% hit the elders, 1.8% often withheld meals from elders and 2.5% reported they left the elder unattended (Minhong 708).
