It is widely known as the period of prosperity as overseas trade flourished and industrial improvements lead to the better lives of the people.

According to the research findings this era is signified as a long period of peace. Aside from minor revolts, Britain was generally in “good terms with neighbouring countries .” This is an era of advances in science, as Darwin introduced the Theory of Evolution, Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone, Sigmund Freud and his theories. It is also at this time when Karl Marx first introduced Marxism through his Communist Manifesto. These are ideologies presented in the attempt to modern solutions. This was the time that the working class were given the right to vote, for the first time. And because of emigration, the population increased from 16.8m in 1851 to 30.5m in 1901. This period is notorious for child labor. “Agile boys were employed by the chimney sweeps. small children were employed to scramble under machinery to retrieve cotton bobbins. and children were also employed to work in coal mines to crawl through tunnels too narrow and low for adults .” In the year 1840, only about 20% of the children have any schooling.
