Q1: If the people in a democracy decide what rights are “natural” then are there rights that are inherent in nature/granted by “God,” or are they made up by mankind?
Q2: If rights come from nature/”God,” how do we know what those rights are? Where are they defined, delineated and explained?
Q3: If rights come from nature/”God,” can government take them away? Can a government grant rights that do not come from nature/”God?” When a democratic majority votes to take rights away, is there any recourse by an individual affected by the loss of rights?

Consider the following quotes:
“A free people claim their rights as derived from the Laws of Nature, and not as the gift of their magistrates.” – Thomas Jefferson, “Founding Father” and 3d US President
“Natural rights is simple nonsense: natural and imprescriptible rights, rhetorical nonsense, – nonsense upon stilts” – Jeremy Bentham, philosopher
“The most fundamental of the supposed preexisting rights – the right to life – is sacrificed without scruple not only in war, but whenever the interests of society, that is, of the predominant power in the community, is thought to demand it.” – Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Then consider also the following videos:
Senator Ted Cruz: https:// Speaker Paul Ryan: https:// Kennedy: https:// Obama: from 5:57 to 6:25: https:// Scalia: https:// elected politicians above all use rhetoric similar to Jefferson. But the Supreme Court Justices, who are intimately involved in the process of interpreting the law, says that natural law includes nothing more than what the people say is included in natural law.
